I decided to do my first blog on a restaurant that I absolutely love, Vudu. It is located in West Chester, PA and was formerly known as the High Street Cafe. Even though the name changed, the food did not. The service is excellent and the decor is amazing. It's still easily the best Cajun food I've ever had.

For an appetizer, we chose the blackened alligator served with a creole honey mustard sauce. The first time I tried this, I was hesitant as I had never tried alligator before. Once I did, I was hooked. The blackened alligator has a hint of spiciness that pairs well with the accompanying sauce. As far as taste, it's simply.....delicious!

For my entree, I chose the Voodoo Fra Diablo. The dish consisted of day boat scallops, shrimp, crawfish, and calamari sauteed in a blackened voodoo lager fra diablo sauce tossed in fettuccine and Parmesan. The seafood was cooked perfectly and overall the dish was not overly spicy. The seafood was plentiful enough to have some with every bite. Be wary of the sauce however, it can stain new shirts with ease (learned that from experience). I was able to take half of my entree home for leftovers which was an excellent lunch two days later.

For my date's entree, she ordered the Etouffee. The Etouffee came with a plentiful serving of day boat scallops, crawfish, and shrimp mixed with a dark roux of onions, peppers and celery served over rice. She ordered the half portion which filled her up, but if you want leftovers (I guarantee you will), go for the full portion. The dish is slightly spicy, but not overpowering, which allows you to fully taste the seafood and all the savory creole seasoning in the sauce.

We both chose the Vanilla Java Porter from Atwater Brewery to enjoy with our meals. It was an unseasonably cold and rainy July evening so a porter seemed appropriate. The beer was slightly more carbonated than a traditional porter, but there was very little bitterness and the beer was smooth. It paired well with our dishes because it didn't overpower the flavors of our food.
The alcohol selection is plentiful as Vudu has a full bar. They feature several select drafts, multiple bottled beer options as well as several wine selections and other specialty mixed drinks.

For dessert, we decided to share a chocolate mousse dish. Chocolate mousse is typically one of my two "go to" Cajun dessert dishes. The other being Creme Brulee. The chocolate mousse was topped with whipped cream and stawberries. As you can see in the picture, it was plated nicely for excellent presentation. As for the taste, YUM!! The chocolate was rich and creamy and having a sweet, yet slightly acidic strawberry, contrasted the richness of the mousse and whipped cream perfectly. It wasn't necessary with every bite, but was a nice change every now and then.
Overall, the food and drink were amazing. I'm almost hesitant to post this blog as it may affect my ability to get reservations in the future! If you want Cajun, visit Vudu.
